Lawns in Gloucester

Lawn care Gloucester, new sod in open wind.

Our Gloucester routes cover the south end only: Blossom Park, Greenboro, Hunt Club East, South Keys, Leitrim and Findlay Creek. Orléans is outside our circle. The newest lawns here sit on thin builder topsoil over clay, and open ground round the airport dries them fast. Lawn care Gloucester homes need depends on how old the street is.

Gloucester lawns, up close

Builder topsoil runs thin over hard clay.

Findlay Creek and the newer streets around Leitrim were built quickly, and many lawns went down on a few centimetres of topsoil spread over packed clay. The sod looks good for a season or two, then dries out in July and holds water in April. Core aeration each fall and one deep soak a week are what start to fix that layer.

South of Hunt Club Road, open fields and the airport lands leave these streets exposed, and wind dries lawns out faster than in sheltered neighbourhoods. We keep the cut high through summer, and the lawn care Gloucester customers book with us in Findlay Creek usually includes a fall feeding to rebuild roots.

Blossom Park and Greenboro are older, with larger suburban lots and established lawns. There the work looks more like weekly mowing, hedge trimming and a thatch check than a rescue. Hunt Club East and South Keys sit in between, with mid-size lots and a mix of detached homes and townhouses.

The region’s official weather records come from the station at the airport next door, published by Environment Canada: historical climate data.

What we do differently here

  • Aeration for builder soilYearly core aeration opens up the thin topsoil and packed clay under newer sod.
  • Higher cut in the windExposed lawns near open fields are left longer in summer so they hold moisture.
  • Older lots, wider mowersLarger Blossom Park and Greenboro lawns get a wider deck to keep the visit short.

Your season

Gloucester’s new lawns struggle most in midsummer.

Around Findlay Creek and the fields near Leitrim, July heat and steady wind brown thin new sod faster than in sheltered neighbourhoods. Watering deeply, cutting high and booking aeration for late August is the plan that works best here.
